How We Address Problem Behavior
At Step Up ABA, we first work to teach underlying skills that may be leading to problem behaviors. If a child is struggling to communicate, they may act out to have their needs met. We believe the best approach is to teach alternative replacement behaviors — starting with communication — first. We may also conduct a functional assessment to identify the reason for maladaptive behavior, allowing us to develop the most effective intervention for each child's individual needs.
